I Need a Hero

When you think of classic romance, what stories stick in your mind?  What do all the best-loved stories have in common?  We think that special something is a Hero.

Liquid Silver Books is looking for stories that feature Heroes.  Whether these Heroes are on the nightly news, or unnoticed, or hidden as they go about their work, they all deserve that one person who’s not only their perfect partner, but who also brings them a very special “happily ever after.”

These stories’ protagonists must be strong and capable, but should not be perfect – they should feel real, complex, with normal faults and problems, and they should learn important lessons about themselves as they fight to overcome the odds.  There can be strong secondary characters, but the building relationship between the protagonists while they battle an intense and gripping conflict or villain must be the main thrust of the story.

Heroes stories can fall within any heat level, fitting our Platinum, Sterling, Liquid, or Molten guidelines – see www.liquidsilverbooks.com/guidelines.htm for more information on our heat levels.  But they are romance stories, not erotica – there must be a strong and compelling story linking everything together, not a series of sex scenes.  They must be at least 15K, and can take place in any setting, from small town America to the vast light years of outer space.  They can include paranormal elements, such as shifters or alternate worlds, but the underlying Heroes theme must ring true.

Do you have a larger-than-life Hero fighting against all odds in your latest manuscript?  If so, we want to see it.  We think strong ethics and leadership are in greater need today than ever, and we want to tell stories that showcase these qualities and entice our readers to add new books to their list of favorites.

Or if you have questions, just drop me a line – Georgia at liquidsilverbooks.com .

Back in the Saddle Again…

Yeah, I’m back. I had a really hard time settling down to write without also having my hand in the business end, and I really missed the daily author interaction. So yeah, I’m back.

As Acquisitions Director at Liquid Silver Books, I’m getting the best of both worlds – I get to read and acquire great books, and I get to talk to my authors too because I’m also doing author development. And those are my favorite roles to play. There are a lot of changes, all for the good, that we’re making, and I’m excited to see where Liquid Silver Books is going. I think the possibilities are wide open, and that’s something I’m very happy to see.

And if you have something to send me? Even better – send it to submissions at liquidsilverbooks.com and I’ll get back to you.

Meanwhile, happy writing!
Georgia

On the geeky side…

So, I’ve decided to take some time away from editing and write.  After all, I have always said that’s where my heart is, and at some point I have to decide if I truly want to follow that pathway and chase my own dream, and if that’s really what I want, or if I am better suited to the acquisitions and editorial side of the house.  Along that route, and perfectly apropos, I’m repeating some advice I’ve been giving authors for years while I put together the foundation for my own writing career.

If you are considering a new web site, or redesigning your existing one, shop around.  You can register your own domain for $10 a year, and some of them come with free hosting.  The less experience you have with web sites, the more important a provider’s excellent tech support will be to you.  There are many providers out there, so do your homework – the time and effort you put into researching the options for your site will pay off both in money and time savings.  Visit author web sites – make sure you know what other authors of your particular genre and type of book are doing, and write down features or designs that appeal to you.  Have a plan in mind before you ever start work.  Also look at some of the web designers who specialize in author web sites because they sometimes offer discounts and specials for new authors, and their fees might fit more easily into a starving author’s budget.

If you are going to do your own web site, consider learning how to do HTML on your own.  Visit your local library and check out a few books on building web sites for beginners.  You will save a lot of money building your own site, and I highly recommend the treasure trove of free website templates, javascript tools,  and for blogs, WordPress to get started with.  Take the time to hang out at the sites, read the articles and how-tos, and look at all the choices.  Once you get started you’ll find it’s much easier than you think, and I’ve seen some truly awesome web sites made by authors who just took the information given on the WordPress site, along with the software, and let their imagination soar. Don’t be afraid to try new things, show your personality, and indulge your creativity.  Visit web sites like www.kommando.com and get answers to your how-to technical questions – the information is freely available on the web, and you’ll be amazed at how readily those “in the know” are to answer questions and help you do it yourself.

Personally, my site is a mixture of templates I saw and liked, graphics I built myself in PhotoShop, and ideas inspired by things I saw on other author websites, and if I can do it, anyone can.  Now – go forth and be geeky!  That is all…

Hugs!
Georgia
